Ian Wilson Bio

Ian was born in Lancashire, in the north of England, and grew up in Kenya, East Africa (Eldoret & Nakuru), Upstate New York (Vestal – near Binghamton), and North County San Diego (Rancho Bernardo). His post-secondary education is in Chemistry, and worked as a Research & Development Chemist before falling into land surveying in 1988. He was licensed in California in 1993 and is currently licensed in Nevada and Colorado. He has worked in both the private and public sectors and is currently the County Surveyor in Alameda County, California, across the Bay from San Francisco. He served as CLSA State President in 2017 and is the current CLSA Legislative Committee Chair and the CEAC Surveyors Committee Vice Chair. He worked on the CA PLS Exam from 1994 to 2004 and has taught seminars in boundary, legal descriptions, lot line adjustments, and other aspects of land surveying. Ian and his wife, Laura, are avid Scuba divers and have just returned from a dive trip to Roatan, in the Caribbean Bay Island of Honduras. They have dive trips on tap for the Philippines in April, Cozumel in May, and Fiji in November next year. Ian is an underwater photographer; email him for a link to his latest dive photo album.
