2026 Boundary Survey Essentials for Technicians Seminar

April 9 - April 10

Retracing property boundaries, whether defined by metes and bounds or the Public Land Survey System (PLSS), requires more than technical skill. It demands a solid understanding of the priority of calls, strong interpretation abilities, and sound judgment in evaluating boundary evidence.

Land survey technicians are responsible for locating and assessing evidence that meets project objectives, which often raises important questions:
• Where should I search for corners?
• How much evidence is enough?
• What do I do when few or no corners are found?

This seminar provides answers and proven strategies for successful boundary retracement. Participants will explore common legal description elements and learn techniques for recovering them in the field. Through instruction and hands-on practice, we will:
•  Plot boundaries using metes & bounds and PLSS descriptions
•  Perform essential computations used in boundary retracement
•  Develop clear, defensible legal descriptions that reduce confusion
•  Apply proven strategies for resolving boundary challenges

At least one-third of the seminar will be dedicated to interactive, hands-on classroom activities.

With a stronger foundation in boundary survey principles, attendees will leave with increased confidence, improved field efficiency, and the skills needed to earn the trust of coworkers and supervisors.
