Palatiello \nSeptember 16-17\, 2022 with an opportunity to earn 4\, 8\, 12 or 16 PDHs.\nEducational sessions\, materials and refreshment breaks are included.\n \nFriday\, September 16 – 8:00AM – 12:00PM \n  \nMulti-Part Session on Land Surveying \nSession Synopsis:\n \nPart I – The Importance and Maintenance of Accuracy and Workflow in Field Work and Drafting. \nPart II – Drones and Highly Accurate 3D Modelling for Maps and Fieldwork. \nPart III – Construction Layout and Mapping Fieldwork. \nPart III – Working with metadata from public sources in CAD. \n– Will be working inside Carlson and Civil 3D. \nPart IV – New Horizons in Survey Technology \n– What we can expect in the next 20 years. \nAnthony Gutierrez\, PS – President of GEM Surveying operating out of Organ\, NM. Grandson of the late Valentine Magellanes\, he has been surveying since 1994\, and actively surveying in this region since 2003. He has overseen surveying and control on notable projects such as; The Inn of The Mountain Gods Casino and Resort in Mescalero\, NM. Two Phases of the Main Street Rehabilitation Project in Las Cruces\, NM. Town of Mesilla Roadway Improvements\, Mesilla\, NM. And the Village of Ruidoso Upper Canyon Flood Control Project. Mr. Gutierrez has a background in manufacturing and production and began his education at NMSU in pursuit of a career in Industrial Engineering. He has used his understanding of efficiency and application of technology to create a highly effective form of surveying. Since 2015 he has focused on the use of drones and 3D photogrammetric processing in coordination with topographic mapping. Mr. Gutierrez is highly motivated and enjoys seeing the combined work of his team produce durable mapping products that can be used for many different applications. Mr. Gutierrez is highly proficient in the use of nearly all modern data collectors\, GIS systems\, GPS and Robotics\, and civil/survey CAD drafting. He is also a partner and developer of Geodigraph GIS and Geodigraph HUB. Two systems of which provide open source GIS mapping for county assessors and project management for other Cooperative businesses. \n  \n(12:00 Noon – 1:00PM – Lunch Provided) \n  \nFriday\, September 16 – 1:00PM – 5:00PM \n“Ethics for Land Surveyors and Engineers” \nSession Synopsis: \nThe general format will follow an interactive format where topics are introduced but audience participation drives the specific areas of discussion.  Topics will include: why ethics matters\, TX PS regulatory drivers for ethics\, NCEES-based discussion of ethics and corporate ethics in business development. \nKarl Tonander\, PE has almost 30 years of engineering and geological experience including petroleum storage tank investigation and remediation\, mining reclamation\, water system evaluation and design\, hydrogeologic studies and compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). He is presently CEO of Souder\, Miller & Associates\, a New Mexico-based engineering\, environmental and geomatics consulting firm\, is a professional engineer in nine states and a professional geologist in six states. He has been a member of or officer for several public and professional organizations including the New Mexico Section of the American Institute of Professional Geologists\, Santa Fe County Mine Plan Review Board\, and New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology Mineral Engineering Department and Environmental and Civil Engineering Department Industry Advisory Boards. He has received instructor of the year awards from both the New Mexico Water & Wastewater Association and New Mexico Rural Water Association and has provided ethics presentations to professional organizations in New Mexico\, Texas and Louisiana. Mr. Tonander has served on the New Mexico Board of Professional Engineers and Professional Surveyors since 2017 and leads the annual Board ethics presentations since their inception in 2018\, was appointed to the NCEES Committee on Law Enforcement for four years (two as chair)\, the NCEES Committee on Uniform Procedures and Legislative Guidelines for two years\, and is presently NCEES Western Zone Secretary/Treasurer. \n  \n  \n  \n\n  \nSaturday\, September 17 – 8:00AM – 12:00PM (Full day only)\n \n“The Complete and Prudent Surveyor” \nSession Synopsis: \nA complete and prudent professional surveyor in 2022 needs a skill set that differs significantly than those in the past. For more than 30 years\, he was Founder and President of the firm of John M. Palatiello & Associates\, Inc.\, which was acquired by Miller/Wenhold in 2018. John is a leading authority of public policy issues affecting the geospatial community. He was named one of the “ten most influential people in the geospatial community” by Directions magazine and is listed in Who’s Who in Professional Design Practice. He serves as Executive Director of the Maryland Society of Surveyors\, the Virginia Association of Surveyors\, Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors\, and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Association\, Administrator of the Council on Federal Procurement of Architectural-Engineering Services (COFPAES)\, a coalition of national design professional societies\, government affairs consultant to the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS)\, and an organizer of the 3DEP Coalition.  For 30 years\, he served as Executive Director of MAPPS\, the association of geospatial firms.  A recent executive management activity is as CEO of U.S. GEO\, a coalition of geospatial firm executives. \n
